Review: plurals, prefixes and suffixes · Review: adding and subtracting · Healthy habits

Week 27 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 3. Five days, about 130 minutes each.

Reading: a review week (plurals, prefixes and suffixes). Every sound so far, writing words by their sounds, and the sight words “kind” and “laugh”. The new story is “The Tooth on the Beach”, and the reread is “Hum Under My Hand”.

Writing: Revising a report. To revise, your child adds one fact, takes out one sentence that doesn't belong, and makes the ending stronger.

Math: Review: adding and subtracting. Mixed practice with adding and subtracting within 1,000 and story problems with every kind of number.

Science: Healthy habits. Brushing teeth, washing hands, eating fruits and vegetables, moving and sleeping keep a body well.

Social studies, a shorter piece each day: What is a community?. A community is a group of people who live, work or play in the same place and help each other.

Read-alouds: “The Tooth on the Beach”, “The Tale of Peter Rabbit”, “Eeyore's Birthday”, “Stone Soup” and “The Princess and the Pea”.

For the whole family: Make a healthy snack together and count how many colors of food are on the plate.
