2nd grade homeschool plan, week 26
Suffixes -er and -or: people who do things · Equal groups · Heart and lungs
Week 26 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 3. Five days, about 130 minutes each.
Reading: -er and -or, -er and -or can mean a person who does something: teach, teacher; act, actor. Words to read and spell: teacher, farmer, baker, singer, painter, actor, sailor and visitor. Sight words: “hurt” and “keep”. The new story is “Hum Under My Hand”, and the reread is “Tavi and the Bones Under Her Skin”.
Writing: Notes into sentences. Your child turns short notes (single words and phrases) into full sentences for a report.
Math: Equal groups. Equal groups as the start of multiplying: 4 groups of 3 is 3 + 3 + 3 + 3.
Science: Heart and lungs. The heart pumps blood all through the body, and the lungs bring in the air it needs.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Timelines. A timeline puts things that happened in order, from first to last, so we can see how things change over time.
Read-alouds: “Hum Under My Hand”, “The Tooth on the Beach”, “The Snail Race”, “Dumpling Takes the Lead” and “The Steadfast Tin Soldier”.
For the whole family: Count heartbeats sitting still, then after jumping for a minute, and compare.
