Day 130 of 180 · Science: Heart and lungs · Social studies: Timelines · about 130 minutes

Reading30 min

Reread: Tavi and the Bones Under Her Skin

  1. Reread “Tavi and the Bones Under Her Skin” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “hurt” and “keep”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing20 min

Every note used

  1. Check that every note made it into your paragraph, and add any that are missing.
  2. Your child turns short notes (single words and phrases) into full sentences for a report.
Math30 min

Equal groups on paper

  1. Make a sheet of equal group problems on the worksheet generator, or write five yourself.
  2. Draw each one to check the answer.
Science20 min

A strong heart

  1. Exercise makes the heart muscle stronger. Do a minute each of jumping jacks, running in place and dancing.
  2. Write a plan for an hour of moving every day this week.
Social studies15 min

My future timeline

  1. Draw a timeline from now until you are a grown-up, with three things you hope to do.
  2. Afterward, your child writes how today's topic shows up in their own town or home.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Steadfast Tin Soldier

  1. Read “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
