Day 131 of 180 · Science: Healthy habits · Social studies: What is a community? · about 130 minutes

Reading30 min

Review: read the words

  1. Read these words from the last few weeks: rewrite, helpful, teacher, preheat, careful, farmer, preview, hopeful and baker.
  2. Sort them by their spelling pattern, then read each group again.
  3. Any word that is slow goes on a card to read every day this week.
Writing20 min

Add a fact

  1. Reread one of this quarter's reports and add one new fact to it.
  2. To revise, your child adds one fact, takes out one sentence that doesn't belong, and makes the ending stronger.
Math30 min

Three-digit check

  1. Solve four problems: two three-digit sums and two differences, one of each with regrouping.
  2. Check one of them with base-ten blocks.
Science20 min

How germs spread

  1. Germs spread by coughs, sneezes and hands. Put a little flour on your hand and shake hands with someone. Where did it go?
  2. Practice coughing and sneezing into your elbow.
Social studies15 min

Kinds of communities

  1. Write three communities you belong to and what the people in each one share.
  2. Afterward, your child writes two or three sentences about what they did and why it matters.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Tooth on the Beach

  1. Read “The Tooth on the Beach” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
