Review words in sentences

  1. Read these review words, then use each in a sentence out loud: rewrite, helpful, teacher, preheat, careful and farmer.
  2. Mix them up: point to a word at random and see if your child can read it.
  3. New sight words: “kind” and “laugh”. These are read by sight, not sounded out. Write each on a card and read the cards every day this week.

A stronger ending

  1. Rewrite the ending of your report so it tells the reader why the topic matters.
  2. To revise, your child adds one fact, takes out one sentence that doesn't belong, and makes the ending stronger.

  1. Read a bar graph and a line plot you made, and answer three questions about each.
  2. Make one new graph from a question you choose.

Read-aloud: Eeyore's Birthday

  1. Read “Eeyore's Birthday” aloud. Give the characters different voices; it helps a young listener follow who is talking.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
