Reread: Hum Under My Hand

  1. Reread “Hum Under My Hand” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “kind” and “laugh”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing20 min

The final copy

  1. Copy the revised report neatly and read it to the family.
  2. To revise, your child adds one fact, takes out one sentence that doesn't belong, and makes the ending stronger.
Math30 min

Third quarter games day

  1. Play two 2nd grade math games your child chooses.
  2. Talk about which skill each game practiced.
Science20 min

Sleep and screens

  1. Children from 6 to 12 need about 9 to 12 hours of sleep a night. Count the hours you slept last night.
  2. Make a bedtime plan that puts screens away an hour before bed.
Social studies15 min

My community poster

  1. Make a poster about your community with a map, three places and two helpers.
  2. Afterward, your child writes how today's topic shows up in their own town or home.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Princess and the Pea

  1. Read “The Princess and the Pea” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
