2nd grade homeschool plan, week 8
Doubling before -ed and -ing · Subtracting within 100 · Fall changes
Week 8 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 1. Five days, about 130 minutes each.
Reading: doubling, after one short vowel and one consonant, double the consonant before -ed or -ing: hop, hopped, hopping. Words to read and spell: hopped, hopping, stopped, stopping, planned, running, sitting and clapped. Sight words: “your” and “always”. The new story is “Why Do Leaves Change Color?”, and the reread is “The Moon's Night Off”.
Writing: A true story with feelings. A true story tells what happened in order and how the writer felt. Your child includes a feeling and why they felt it.
Math: Subtracting within 100. Subtracting two-digit numbers by taking away tens and ones, by counting up, and on a number line.
Science: Fall changes. As the weather cools, leaves change, days get shorter, and animals and people get ready for winter.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Caring for shared places. Parks, libraries and sidewalks belong to everyone, so everyone helps keep them clean and safe.
Read-alouds: “Why Do Leaves Change Color?”, “The Ant and the Grasshopper”, “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “Bracken Keeps the Hill” and “The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs”.
For the whole family: Collect leaves on a walk and sort them by color, size and shape.
