2nd grade homeschool plan, week 7
Long u: ew, ue and u_e · Adding within 100 · Day and night
Week 7 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 1. Five days, about 130 minutes each.
Reading: ew, ue and u_e, the long u and oo sound is spelled ew (new), ue (blue) or u_e (cube). Words to read and spell: new, blue, cube, flew, glue, mule, chew and true. Sight words: “would” and “write”. The new story is “The Moon's Night Off”, and the reread is “Why Is the Sky Blue?”.
Writing: Writing with numbers and facts. Facts can be counted or measured. Your child puts at least one number in each piece and says where it came from.
Math: Adding within 100. Adding two-digit numbers by adding tens and ones, by counting on along a number line, and by making a ten.
Science: Day and night. The sun, the moon and the stars, and the pattern of day and night.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Choosing together. When a group must make one choice, people can take turns, talk it over, or vote, and every vote counts the same.
Read-alouds: “The Moon's Night Off”, “Mina and the Eight Planets”, “The Letter for the Moon”, “The Night Bus” and “The First Steps”.
For the whole family: Look at the moon on a clear evening and draw its shape; look again a few nights later.
