Day 38 of 180 · Science: Fall changes · Social studies: Caring for shared places · about 130 minutes

doubling in sentences

  1. Read the doubling words from this week again, then read them in sentences: on the decodable page, or in three short sentences you write.
  2. New sight words: “your” and “always”. These are read by sight, not sounded out. Write each on a card and read the cards every day this week.
Writing20 min

Pressing a leaf

  1. Write a true story about collecting and pressing a leaf.
  2. A true story tells what happened in order and how the writer felt. Your child includes a feeling and why they felt it.
Math30 min

Back on a number line

  1. On an open number line, start at 74 and jump back 30, then 6: 38.
  2. Do 90 − 47 and 83 − 29 the same way.
Science20 min

Seeds on the move

  1. Find seeds that travel: maple wings, burrs, dandelion fluff, acorns.
  2. Sort them by how they travel: wind, animals, or falling.
Social studies15 min

A cleanup plan

  1. Plan a small cleanup of a shared place: what to bring, who does what, and how to stay safe. Then do it with a grown-up.
  2. Your child explains today to someone at home, then writes the main idea in a sentence.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Jack and the Beanstalk

  1. Read “Jack and the Beanstalk” aloud. Give the characters different voices; it helps a young listener follow who is talking.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
