2nd grade homeschool plan, week 4

Long e: ee, ea, e and y · Hundreds, tens and ones · Rules and getting along

Week 4 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 1. Five days, about 130 minutes each.

Reading: ee, ea, e and y, long e is spelled ee (green), ea (beach), e at the end (we), or y at the end of a longer word (happy). Words to read and spell: green, beach, we, happy, sweet, dream, she and penny. Sight words: “very” and “wash”. The new story is “Duck Says Sorry”, and the reread is “The Bear Who Could Not Sleep”.

Writing: Answering a question in full. A full answer turns the question into the start of the sentence: "Why do we have laws? We have laws because..." Then it gives a reason and an example.

Math: Hundreds, tens and ones. Three-digit numbers: 100 is ten tens, and 243 is 2 hundreds, 4 tens and 3 ones.

Social studies: Rules and getting along. Why families, schools and towns have rules, and how people take turns, share and solve problems.

Science, a shorter piece each day: Sorting and comparing. Sorting things by color, size, shape or what they are made of, and comparing them, is how scientists find patterns.

Read-alouds: “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, “The Emperor's New Clothes”, “Goblins on Good Behavior”, “The Dog in the Manger” and “Mavis and the Greedy Mayor”.

For the whole family: Write three family rules together and hang them where everyone can see.
