Reading30 min

Reread: The Bear Who Could Not Sleep

  1. Reread “The Bear Who Could Not Sleep” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “very” and “wash”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing20 min

My game's rules

  1. Write the four rules of the game you made, each as a full sentence.
  2. A full answer turns the question into the start of the sentence: "Why do we have laws? We have laws because..." Then it gives a reason and an example.
Math30 min

Place value worksheet

  1. Do a place value sheet for three-digit numbers.
  2. Check two answers with blocks.
Science15 min

Classify animals

  1. Sort ten animals into groups, like fur, feathers or scales, and write your rule for each group.
  2. Your child explains today's science to someone at home, then writes it down in three sentences.
Social studies20 min

Rules for a new game

  1. Invent a simple game with four written rules.
  2. Play it, then fix any rule that didn't work.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Mavis and the Greedy Mayor

  1. Read “Mavis and the Greedy Mayor” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. Afterward, ask: has anything like this happened to you? How was it the same, or different?
