2nd grade homeschool plan, week 20
Silent letters: kn, wr and mb · Subtracting three-digit numbers · Water on Earth
Week 20 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 3. Five days, about 130 minutes each.
Reading: kn, wr and mb, some letters are silent: the k in knee, the w in write, the b in lamb. Words to read and spell: knee, knot, know, write, wrap, wrong, lamb and thumb. Sight words: “bring” and “carry”. The new story is “Rain's Long Trip”, and the reread is “The Ant and the Grasshopper”.
Writing: A definition and an example. Informative writing explains new words. Your child writes a word, what it means, and an example of it.
Math: Subtracting three-digit numbers. Subtracting within 1,000, breaking a hundred into tens or a ten into ones when needed.
Science: Water on Earth. Oceans, lakes, rivers and rain: most of Earth is covered by water, and the same water moves around and around.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Yesterday, today and tomorrow. Time words like yesterday, today, tomorrow, morning, afternoon and night put the events of a day in order.
Read-alouds: “Rain's Long Trip”, “Why Is the Ocean Salty?”, “Lulu the Lanternfish Lights Up”, “Ben and the Puddle Boat” and “Water Uphill”.
For the whole family: Fill a bowl with water and talk about everywhere water goes in a day at your home.
