2nd grade homeschool plan, week 15
ou and ow · Time to five minutes · Ramps and rolling
Week 15 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 2. Five days, about 130 minutes each.
Reading: ou and ow, ou (cloud) and ow (crown) both say /ow/, in short words and longer ones. Words to read and spell: cloud, sound, mouth, found, crown, flower, growl and shower. Sight words: “found” and “gave”. The new story is “The First Flight”, and the reread is “The Little Blue Engine”.
Writing: A letter with a purpose. A letter has a date, a greeting, a body that says why you are writing, a closing and a name.
Math: Time to five minutes. Telling time on a clock face to the nearest five minutes, and counting by 5s around the clock.
Science: Ramps and rolling. Ramps make things roll; steeper ramps and smoother surfaces change how fast and how far.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Choosing what to buy. Nobody can have everything, so people choose: they compare prices, think about needs first, and save for later.
Read-alouds: “The Elevator Plan”, “The First Flight”, “Tom Thumb”, “The Snail Race” and “The Hen Parade”.
For the whole family: Build a ramp from a board or a book and race toy cars, changing one thing at a time.
