Review: the year's spelling patterns · Review of the year · Looking back on my year
Week 36 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 4. Five days, about 130 minutes each.
Reading: a review week (the year's spelling patterns). Every sound so far, writing words by their sounds, and the sight words “warm” and “cut”. The new story is “The Ugly Duckling”, and the reread is “Stone Soup”.
Writing: My year: a reflection. Your child writes about their year: what they learned, what was hard, and what they want to learn next.
Math: Review of the year. A last look at facts, place value, adding and subtracting within 1,000, measuring, time, money and shapes.
Social studies: Looking back on my year. Children look back at how they have grown and what they have learned, and make a book of their year.
Science, a shorter piece each day: What I wonder. Scientists start with a question, make a guess, test it, and say what happened; children pick a question and try it.
Read-alouds: “Priya Moves Away”, “Goodbye, Waffles”, “The Ugly Duckling”, “Eeyore's Birthday” and “Dumpling Takes the Lead”.
For the whole family: Each child picks their favorite thing from the year to show the family.
