2nd grade homeschool plan, week 35
ear and eer · Math games and puzzles · Summer and sun safety
Week 35 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 4. Five days, about 130 minutes each.
Reading: ear and eer, ear (near) and eer (deer) both say /eer/. Words to read and spell: near, clear, year, beard, deer, cheer, steer and peer. Sight words: “together” and “try”. The new story is “Stone Soup”, and the reread is “The North Wind and the Sun”.
Writing: A finished piece to share. Your child picks their best piece of the year, revises it, copies it neatly, and reads it to the family.
Math: Math games and puzzles. A week of games and puzzles that use the year's skills, with a grown-up keeping score.
Science: Summer and sun safety. Summer brings long days and strong sun, and shade, hats and water keep people safe and cool.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Voting and good citizens. Citizens help choose leaders by voting, follow fair rules, and help their community; children can practice all three.
Read-alouds: “Why Do We Have Seasons?”, “The Moon Follows Me”, “Ruby and the Rainy Picnic”, “Tom and the Big Fish” and “The First Steps”.
For the whole family: Find the shadiest and the sunniest spot in your yard or a park, and feel the ground in each.
