Day 175 of 180 · Science: Summer and sun safety · Social studies: Voting and good citizens · about 130 minutes

Reading30 min

Reread: The North Wind and the Sun

  1. Reread “The North Wind and the Sun” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “together” and “try”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing20 min

An author's reading

  1. Read your finished piece aloud to the family, then answer their questions as the author.
  2. Your child picks their best piece of the year, revises it, copies it neatly, and reads it to the family.
Math30 min

Math games day

  1. Play two 2nd grade math games your child chooses on peabody.kids.
  2. Your child teaches you how to play one of them.
Science20 min

Water safety

  1. Talk about water safety rules: swim only with a grown-up watching, wear a life jacket on boats, and never swim alone.
  2. Make a poster of three rules for summer.
Social studies15 min

A citizen's promises

  1. Write five promises for being a good citizen at home and in your community.
  2. Afterward, your child writes how today's topic shows up in their own town or home.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The First Steps

  1. Read “The First Steps” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
