2nd grade homeschool plan, week 29
Vowel teams in longer words · Cubes, faces and angles · Bugs and small creatures
Week 29 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 4. Five days, about 130 minutes each.
Reading: vowel teams in two syllables, split the word into its parts and read each vowel team: rain-bow, sea-weed. Words to read and spell: rainbow, peanut, seaweed, daydream, oatmeal, mailbox, toaster and teapot. Sight words: “much” and “myself”. The new story is “Odile and the Fizzy Cup”, and the reread is “Jack and the Beanstalk”.
Writing: A story problem. In the middle of a story, the character has a problem and tries to fix it, and the first try may not work.
Math: Cubes, faces and angles. Solid shapes and their faces, and drawing shapes with a given number of angles.
Science: Bugs and small creatures. Insects have six legs and three body parts; spiders, worms and pill bugs are small creatures that are not insects.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: City, town and country. Some people live in busy cities, some in towns, and some in the country, and each place is different to live in.
Read-alouds: “Look at Ants”, “The Ant and the Grasshopper”, “Winnie-the-Pooh and the Bees”, “The Hen Parade” and “Tom Thumb”.
For the whole family: Lift a log or a stone outside, look at what lives under it, and put it back gently.
