Spell words with vowel teams in two syllables

1. Say a word: oatmeal, mailbox, toaster and teapot. Your child says each sound, then writes the word.
2. Check each one together and fix any letter that is off.
3. Read all eight vowel teams in two syllables words as fast as you can, then once more.

The first try

1. Write the character's first try at fixing the problem, a try that doesn't work.
2. In the middle of a story, the character has a problem and tries to fix it, and the first try may not work.

Angles are corners

1. An angle is the corner where two sides meet. Count the angles in a triangle, a square and a hexagon.
2. Does a flat shape always have as many angles as sides?

Insects at work

1. Bees carry pollen, dung beetles clean up, and ladybugs eat aphids that harm plants.
2. Write the job of three insects and why people need them.

Jobs in each place

1. List jobs people do in a city, in a suburb and in the country.
2. Your child writes what they learned today and one question it raised.

1. Read “The Ant and the Grasshopper” aloud, with your child beside you where they can see the pictures.
2. Stop halfway and ask: what do you think will happen next?
