2nd grade homeschool plan, week 30

Homophones · Halves, thirds and fourths · Life cycles

Week 30 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 4. Five days, about 130 minutes each.

Reading: homophones, words that sound the same but are spelled differently and mean different things: see and sea. Words to read and spell: see, sea, by, buy, write, right, won and one. Sight words: “never” and “only”. The new story is “Tadpoles in a Jar”, and the reread is “Odile and the Fizzy Cup”.

Writing: Talking in a story. When characters talk, their exact words go inside quotation marks, and a new speaker starts a new line.

Math: Halves, thirds and fourths. Splitting circles and rectangles into two, three or four equal shares and naming them.

Science: Life cycles. Frogs, butterflies and chickens start small and change as they grow, and their young look like or unlike their parents.

Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Working together. Neighbors help each other, volunteer, and solve problems together, which makes a community stronger.

Read-alouds: “Tadpoles in a Jar”, “The Ugly Duckling”, “The Frog That Freezes”, “The Frog Prince” and “Eight Arms”.

For the whole family: Draw the life cycle of a frog as a circle of pictures, each child drawing one stage.
