2nd grade homeschool plan, week 13

air, are and ear · Measuring in centimeters and meters · Animal homes

Week 13 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 2. Five days, about 130 minutes each.

Reading: air, are and ear, air (hair), are (care) and ear (bear) can all say /air/. Words to read and spell: hair, chair, care, share, bear, pear, stair and square. Sight words: “does” and “don't”. The new story is “Look at Ants”, and the reread is “The Fox and the Grapes”.

Writing: A how-to with materials. A how-to lists what you need, then numbered steps with order words, and a picture for the hardest step.

Math: Measuring in centimeters and meters. Measuring in metric units, and seeing that a smaller unit needs more of them for the same length.

Science: Animal homes. Animals build and choose homes, and in doing it they change the places they live.

Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Town, state and country. A home is in a town, the town is in a state, and the state is one of fifty in the United States of America.

Read-alouds: “Look at Ants”, “The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats”, “Snow White and Rose Red”, “Winnie-the-Pooh and the Bees” and “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”.

For the whole family: Look for animal homes on a walk: nests, holes, webs and hives, and draw the best one.
