1st grade homeschool plan, week 3
Short e, and all five short vowels · Taking away within 10 · Seeing and hearing
Week 3 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 1. Five days, about 85 minutes each.
Reading: short e, e as in bed, the short vowel that is easiest to mix up with i. Words to read and spell: bed, pen, ten, wet, leg, jet, red and hen. Sight words: “as” and “ask”. The new story is “In My Bag”, and the reread is “Go, Snail, Go!”.
Math: Taking away within 10. Subtracting within 10 by counting back, by thinking of adding, and by taking from 10.
Science: Seeing and hearing. How eyes catch light and ears catch sound, and what happens when there is no light or no sound.
Read-alouds: “Why Is the Sky Blue?”, “The Thread That Glowed”, “The Bremen Town Musicians”, “Lulu the Lanternfish Lights Up” and “The Moon's Night Off”.
For the whole family: Make the room dark, then light a flashlight, and talk about what you can and cannot see.
