1st grade homeschool plan, week 2
Short o and short u · Adding within 10 · My five senses
Week 2 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 1. Five days, about 85 minutes each.
Reading: short o and u, o as in hot and u as in sun: one short vowel between consonants. Words to read and spell: hot, mop, dog, log, sun, bug, cup and rub. Sight words: “an” and “any”. The new story is “Go, Snail, Go!”, and the reread is “Where Is the Cat?”.
Math: Adding within 10. A fresh look at adding within 10: counting on, doubles, the pairs that make 10, and adding 0 and 1.
Science: My five senses. Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching are how we find out about the world, and the first tools of a scientist.
Read-alouds: “Hum Under My Hand”, “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”, “The Princess and the Pea”, “The Fox and the Grapes” and “The Gingerbread Man”.
For the whole family: Take a senses walk outside: everyone names one thing for each sense.
