1st grade, week 2, day 5

Day 10 of 180 · Science: My five senses · about 85 minutes

Reading25 min

Reread: Where Is the Cat?

  1. Reread “Where Is the Cat?” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “an” and “any”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Math25 min

Facts within 10

  1. Do an addition within 10 sheet.
  2. Circle any fact that took a long time and practice those tomorrow.
Science20 min

How eyes change

  1. Look at your child's eyes in a mirror in a dim room, then turn on a bright light.
  2. The dark circle in the middle (the pupil) gets smaller in bright light.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Gingerbread Man

  1. Read “The Gingerbread Man” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
