Kindergarten homeschool plan, week 16
Letters z and qu · Parts of 5 · Snow and ice
Week 16 of 36 in kindergarten, in quarter 2. Five days, about 70 minutes each.
Reading: the sounds of z and qu, one a day, then blending them with the letters learned before. Sight words: “yellow” and “two”. The new story is “Ten Pigs”, and the reread is “Six Cats, Six Hats”.
Math: Parts of 5. Breaking 5 into two parts in every way (4 and 1, 3 and 2), shown with number bonds.
Science: Snow and ice. Cold turns water to ice and warmth turns it back, and winter weather changes what people and animals do.
Read-alouds: “Lou and the Snow Dad”, “Where Is Ned's Hat?”, “Why Does Ice Float?”, “Pooh and Piglet Go Hunting” and “The Frog That Freezes”.
For the whole family: Freeze water in different containers, then race to melt the shapes in different places.
