Kindergarten, week 16, day 5

Day 80 of 180 · Science: Snow and ice · about 70 minutes

Reading20 min

Reread: Six Cats, Six Hats

  1. Reread “Six Cats, Six Hats” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “yellow” and “two”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Math20 min

Every way to make 5

  1. Make a list together: 5 and 0, 4 and 1, 3 and 2, and so on.
  2. Are 3 and 2 the same as 2 and 3? Show both with counters.
Science15 min

Staying warm

  1. Talk about staying safe in cold weather: hats, mittens and coming inside when cold.
  2. Your child picks the right clothes for a snowy day.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Frog That Freezes

  1. Read “The Frog That Freezes” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
