2nd grade homeschool plan, week 32
Three-syllable words · Adding four numbers · Build it strong
Week 32 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 4. Five days, about 130 minutes each.
Reading: three syllables, clap the beats, then read one part at a time: ba-na-na, el-e-phant. Words to read and spell: banana, dinosaur, elephant, tomato, butterfly, umbrella, computer and telephone. Sight words: “seven” and “shall”. The new story is “Coo Catches Gumdrop”, and the reread is “Sink or Float?”.
Writing: A poem with sense words. A sense poem has a line for each sense about one topic. Your child reads it aloud to hear how it sounds.
Math: Adding four numbers. Adding up to four two-digit numbers, looking for pairs that make tens first.
Science: Build it strong. Engineers solve problems by building, testing and making it better, the same steps children use with blocks.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: The American flag. The flag of the United States has 13 stripes for the first 13 states and 50 stars for the 50 states today.
Read-alouds: “The Squeaky Gate”, “The Elevator Plan”, “Coo Catches Gumdrop”, “Paul Bunyan and Babe” and “Tam and the Wind-Up Tractor”.
For the whole family: Have a tower contest with paper cups or blocks: the tallest tower that stands for ten seconds wins.
