Reread: Sink or Float?

  1. Reread “Sink or Float?” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “seven” and “shall”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing20 min

Poem performance

  1. Pick your favorite poem, practice it, and read it aloud with expression.
  2. A sense poem has a line for each sense about one topic. Your child reads it aloud to hear how it sounds.
Math30 min

Four-number sums on paper

  1. Make a sheet of four-number sums on the worksheet generator, or write five yourself.
  2. Circle the pairs you added first.
Science20 min

A tower that stands

  1. Build the tallest tower you can from 20 paper cups and 10 index cards.
  2. Measure it and write what made it stable.
Social studies15 min

Design a flag

  1. Design a flag for your family with colors and symbols, and write what each part means.
  2. Afterward, your child writes how today's topic shows up in their own town or home.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Tam and the Wind-Up Tractor

  1. Read “Tam and the Wind-Up Tractor” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. Afterward, ask: has anything like this happened to you? How was it the same, or different?
