2nd grade homeschool plan, week 22
Plurals: -s, -es and -ies · Picture graphs · Getting around, then and now
Week 22 of 36 in 2nd grade, in quarter 3. Five days, about 130 minutes each.
Reading: -s, -es and -ies, most words add -s, words ending in s, x, ch or sh add -es, and a y after a consonant turns to -ies. Words to read and spell: bikes, boxes, benches, babies, pennies, cities, puppies and glasses. Sight words: “draw” and “drink”. The new story is “Newt Is Nervous”, and the reread is “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”.
Writing: Compare and contrast. To compare, your child writes how two things are alike and how they are different, using both, but and however.
Math: Picture graphs. Collecting answers to a question, showing them as a picture graph, and asking questions about it.
Social studies: Getting around, then and now. How people traveled long ago, by foot, horse and boat, and how they travel today.
Science, a shorter piece each day: Birds. Birds have feathers, beaks and wings; children watch the birds near home, listen to their songs and look at their nests.
Read-alouds: “The Run to Nome”, “The First Flight”, “Tam and the Wind-Up Tractor”, “The Night Bus” and “The Little Blue Engine”.
For the whole family: Ask a grandparent or older neighbor how they got to school as a child, and compare it with today.
