Review: spell the words

1. Say a word from the review list (cloud, noise, saw, sound, point and draw); your child says its sounds and writes it.
2. Check each one together and fix any letter that is off.
3. Then your child writes one sentence using two of the words.

Spelling patterns

1. Circle the words in your paragraph that use this year's spelling patterns, and check each one.
2. Your child rereads with a checklist: capitals, end marks, spelling patterns we know, and does every sentence make sense.

Change from a dollar

1. You pay $1.00 for something that costs 65¢. Count up from 65¢ to a dollar to find the change.
2. Do it again for 40¢ and 82¢.

How strong is it?

1. Count how many paper clips a magnet can hold in a hanging chain. Try a second magnet.
2. Your child draws a labeled diagram of today's science and writes a sentence under it.

Producers and consumers

1. A producer makes goods or gives services; a consumer buys and uses them. Name a time you were each one.
2. Draw a farmer as a producer and a family shopping as consumers.

1. Read “The Night Bus” aloud, with your child beside you where they can see the pictures.
2. Stop halfway and ask: what do you think will happen next?
