Day 70 of 180 · Science: Pushes and pulls · Social studies: Shops and money · about 130 minutes

Reading30 min

Passage: Magnets Push and Pull

  1. Your child reads the passage, then you read it back to them.
  2. Ask the questions under it, and let your child point to where the answer is.
  3. Read this week's sight words, “fast” and “first”, on their cards.
Writing20 min

Test it again

  1. Have someone new follow your fixed how-to, and write what happened.
  2. A grown-up follows your child's how-to exactly; every place they get stuck needs a clearer step.
Math30 min

Arm spans

  1. Measure the arm spans of family members in inches and list them from longest to shortest.
  2. Find the difference between the longest and the shortest.
Science20 min

A catapult

  1. Build a craft stick catapult and launch a cotton ball.
  2. Change how far you press the stick back and measure where the ball lands each time.
Social studies15 min

Spend, save and share

  1. Make a plan for a pretend five dollars: what to spend now, what to save, and what to share.
  2. Afterward, your child writes how today's topic shows up in their own town or home.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Coo Catches Gumdrop

  1. Read “Coo Catches Gumdrop” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. Afterward, ask: has anything like this happened to you? How was it the same, or different?
