drop the e in sentences

  1. Read the drop the e words from this week again, then read them in sentences: on the decodable page, or in three short sentences you write.
  2. New sight words: “been” and “before”. These are read by sight, not sounded out. Write each on a card and read the cards every day this week.
Writing20 min

A question to start

  1. Start a true story with a question, then tell what happened in order.
  2. A strong first sentence makes a reader want more: a sound, a question, or a moment of action. Your child tries two beginnings and keeps the better one.
Math30 min

Adding in columns

  1. Write 47 + 36 one above the other. Add the ones, write the 3, and put the new ten above the tens.
  2. Do three more and check one of them with blocks.
Science20 min

A habitat near home

  1. A habitat is the place where a plant or animal gets what it needs. Spend ten minutes in a yard, a park or by a pond.
  2. List every plant and animal you find there.
Social studies15 min

How far is it?

  1. With a grown-up, use a map to find how far three places are from home, and put them in order from nearest to farthest.
  2. Your child explains today to someone at home, then writes the main idea in a sentence.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Eight Arms

  1. Read “Eight Arms” aloud. Give the characters different voices; it helps a young listener follow who is talking.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
