1st grade homeschool plan, week 30

Endings: -le · Halves and fourths · Life cycles

Week 30 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 4. Five days, about 110 minutes each.

Reading: -le, -le at the end makes its own beat, /ul/: lit-tle, ap-ple. Words to read and spell: little, apple, table, puzzle, purple, candle, bubble and turtle. Sight words: “goes” and “green”. The new story is “The Tortoise and the Hare”, and the reread is “The Crow and the Pitcher”.

Writing: A list poem. A list poem lists things about one topic, one on a line, and ends with a line that surprises. Your child reads it aloud.

Math: Halves and fourths. Splitting circles and rectangles into two and four equal parts: halves and fourths.

Science: Life cycles. Frogs, butterflies and chickens start small and change as they grow, and their young look like or unlike their parents.

Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Working together. Neighbors help each other, volunteer, and solve problems together, which makes a community stronger.

Read-alouds: “Frogs Are Amazing”, “Tadpoles in a Jar”, “The Ugly Duckling”, “The Frog That Freezes” and “The Frog Prince”.

For the whole family: Draw the life cycle of a frog as a circle of pictures, each child drawing one stage.
