1st grade homeschool plan, week 29
Two-syllable words · Putting shapes together · Bugs and small creatures
Week 29 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 4. Five days, about 110 minutes each.
Reading: two syllables, split between the two middle consonants and read each part: rab-bit, nap-kin. Words to read and spell: rabbit, napkin, picnic, kitten, muffin, basket, button and lesson. Sight words: “found” and “gave”. The new story is “The Crow and the Pitcher”, and the reread is “Pim and the Mitten”.
Writing: Talking in a story. When characters talk, their words go inside quotation marks. Your child adds one or two lines of talking to a story.
Math: Putting shapes together. Making new shapes from triangles, squares and rectangles, and from cubes and cylinders.
Science: Bugs and small creatures. Insects have six legs and three body parts; spiders, worms and pill bugs are small creatures that are not insects.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: City, town and country. Some people live in busy cities, some in towns, and some in the country, and each place is different to live in.
Read-alouds: “Look at Ants”, “The Ant and the Grasshopper”, “Tam and the Wind-Up Tractor”, “Winnie-the-Pooh and the Bees” and “Who Lives Under the Log?”.
For the whole family: Lift a log or a stone outside, look at what lives under it, and put it back gently.
