Reread: Pim and the Mitten

  1. Reread “Pim and the Mitten” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “found” and “gave”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing15 min

Add some talking

  1. Add a line of talking to last week's seed story, with quotation marks.
  2. When characters talk, their words go inside quotation marks. Your child adds one or two lines of talking to a story.
Math25 min

Shapes on the geoboard

  1. Make a shape on the geoboard, then add one band to make a new shape.
  2. Name each shape you make and count its sides.
Science20 min

A bug snack

  1. Make ladybugs on a log together.
  2. While you eat, your child tells you what each part of a real insect is for.
Social studies10 min

City and farm

  1. Draw a city and a farm side by side, then write one way they are alike and one way they differ.
  2. Afterward, your child draws a picture and writes a caption under it.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Who Lives Under the Log?

  1. Read “Who Lives Under the Log?” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
