Reread: The Crow and the Pitcher

  1. Reread “The Crow and the Pitcher” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “goes” and “green”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing15 min

Poem reading

  1. Choose your best poem, copy it neatly, and read it aloud to the family.
  2. A list poem lists things about one topic, one on a line, and ends with a line that surprises. Your child reads it aloud.
Math25 min

Halves and fourths hunt

  1. Cut fruit, a pancake or a paper pizza into halves and then fourths.
  2. Your child names each part and says how many make the whole.
Science20 min

A plant's life cycle

  1. A plant goes from seed to sprout to grown plant to flower, and the flower makes new seeds.
  2. Look at your bean sprouts and draw where they are in the cycle.
Social studies10 min

A helping project

  1. With a grown-up, make cards or drawings to cheer up a neighbor.
  2. Afterward, your child draws a picture and writes a caption under it.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Frog Prince

  1. Read “The Frog Prince” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
