1st grade homeschool plan, week 26
oi and oy · Graphs and data · Heart and lungs
Week 26 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 3. Five days, about 110 minutes each.
Reading: oi and oy, oi and oy both say /oy/: oi in the middle (coin), oy at the end (boy). Words to read and spell: coin, oil, boil, point, boy, toy, joy and enjoy. Sight words: “cold” and “does”. The new story is “The Stuck Kite”, and the reread is “Where Is Ned's Hat?”.
Writing: A report: steps to stay healthy. Your child writes an informative paragraph with a topic sentence, three healthy habits, and an ending sentence.
Math: Graphs and data. Sorting things into up to three groups, making a graph, and answering questions about it.
Science: Heart and lungs. The heart pumps blood all through the body, and the lungs bring in the air it needs.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Timelines. A timeline puts things that happened in order, from first to last, so we can see how things change over time.
Read-alouds: “The Three Little Pigs”, “The North Wind and the Sun”, “Heron Feels Left Out”, “The Frog Prince” and “Snow White”.
For the whole family: Count heartbeats sitting still, then after jumping for a minute, and compare.
