1st grade homeschool plan, week 25
ou and ow · Telling time to the half hour · Bones and muscles
Week 25 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 3. Five days, about 110 minutes each.
Reading: ou and ow, ou and ow can both say /ow/, the sound you make when you are hurt: out, cow. Words to read and spell: out, cloud, house, mouth, cow, now, town and brown. Sight words: “buy” and “call”. The new story is “Where Is Ned's Hat?”, and the reread is “Dot and the Log”.
Writing: A report from a question. Start with a question about the topic. Your child finds three facts that answer it and writes them as a paragraph.
Math: Telling time to the half hour. Reading half past the hour on both kinds of clock.
Science: Bones and muscles. Bones hold the body up and keep it safe, and muscles pull on them to move.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: Clues from the past. Old photos, objects and stories are clues to how people lived before, and history is the story they tell.
Read-alouds: “Tavi and the Bones Under Her Skin”, “Tom Thumb”, “The Steadfast Tin Soldier”, “Paul Bunyan and Babe” and “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”.
For the whole family: Feel for bones in hands, arms and legs, then do a few exercises and feel which muscles work.
