Review: r, oo, ou, ow, oi and oy · Review: adding, measuring and time · Healthy habits

Week 27 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 3. Five days, about 110 minutes each.

Reading: a review week (r, oo, ou, ow, oi and oy). Every sound so far, writing words by their sounds, and the sight words “don't” and “fast”. The new story is “The Bean in the Cup”, and the reread is “The Stuck Kite”.

Writing: Checking my writing. Your child rereads with a short checklist: capitals, end marks, spaces, and does every sentence make sense.

Math: Review: adding, measuring and time. A week of practice with two-digit adding, measuring and telling time.

Science: Healthy habits. Brushing teeth, washing hands, eating fruits and vegetables, moving and sleeping keep a body well.

Social studies, a shorter piece each day: What is a community?. A community is a group of people who live, work or play in the same place and help each other.

Read-alouds: “The Tooth on the Beach”, “My Teeth”, “The Hen Parade”, “Odile and the Fizzy Cup” and “Winnie-the-Pooh and the Bees”.

For the whole family: Make a healthy snack together and count how many colors of food are on the plate.
