Reading25 min

Review: read the words

  1. Read these words from the last few weeks: moon, out, coin, food, cloud, oil, zoo, house and boil.
  2. Sort them by their spelling pattern, then read each group again.
  3. Any word that is slow goes on a card to read every day this week.
Writing15 min

Capitals check

  1. Reread a piece from this month and fix every sentence that needs a capital.
  2. Your child rereads with a short checklist: capitals, end marks, spaces, and does every sentence make sense.
Math25 min

Adding check

  1. Solve six sums: two like 43 + 5, two like 38 + 6, and two like 25 + 30.
  2. Your child shows one of them with base-ten blocks.
Science20 min

Germs and soap

  1. Germs are too small to see. Rub a little glitter on your hands, then try to wash it off with water only, then with soap.
  2. Which worked better? That is how soap works on germs.
Social studies10 min

My communities

  1. Write the groups you belong to: your family, your neighborhood, and any team or club.
  2. Afterward, your child draws today's activity and writes one sentence about it.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Tooth on the Beach

  1. Read “The Tooth on the Beach” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
