1st grade homeschool plan, week 22
Bossy r: or and ore · Comparing lengths · Getting around, then and now
Week 22 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 3. Five days, about 110 minutes each.
Reading: or and ore, or and ore both say /or/, as in corn and more. Words to read and spell: for, corn, horn, fork, more, store, shore and sport. Sight words: “around” and “because”. The new story is “The Little Red Hen”, and the reread is “Liv and the Ants”.
Writing: Comparing then and now. To compare, your child writes how two things are the same and how they are different, with words like both and but.
Math: Comparing lengths. Putting three things in order by length, and comparing two things by using a third.
Social studies: Getting around, then and now. How people traveled long ago, by foot, horse and boat, and how they travel today.
Science, a shorter piece each day: Birds. Birds have feathers, beaks and wings; children watch the birds near home, listen to their songs and look at their nests.
Read-alouds: “The First Flight”, “The First Steps”, “The Night Bus”, “Tam and the Wind-Up Tractor” and “The Bremen Town Musicians”.
For the whole family: Ask a grandparent or older neighbor how they got to school as a child, and compare it with today.
