1st grade homeschool plan, week 15
Vowel teams: ai and ay · Comparing two-digit numbers · Ramps and rolling
Week 15 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 2. Five days, about 85 minutes each.
Reading: ai and ay, two vowels together saying long a: ai in the middle (rain), ay at the end (day). Words to read and spell: rain, mail, tail, paint, day, play, say and stay. Sight words: “over” and “put”. The new story is “Can I Pet It?”, and the reread is “Big Egg”.
Math: Comparing two-digit numbers. Comparing two-digit numbers by their tens, then their ones, with the signs >, = and <.
Science: Ramps and rolling. Ramps make things roll; steeper ramps and smoother surfaces change how fast and how far.
Read-alouds: “Coo Catches Gumdrop”, “The Gingerbread Man”, “The Squeaky Gate”, “The Elevator Plan” and “Tom Thumb”.
For the whole family: Build a ramp from a board or a book and race toy cars, changing one thing at a time.
