1st grade homeschool plan, week 14
Endings: -ing · Numbers to 120 · Pushes and pulls
Week 14 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 2. Five days, about 85 minutes each.
Reading: -ing, -ing means it is happening now: jump becomes jumping. Words to read and spell: jumping, playing, reading, singing, resting, fishing, helping and eating. Sight words: “once” and “open”. The new story is “Big Egg”, and the reread is “Dex on the Bus”.
Math: Numbers to 120. Reading, writing and building numbers to 120 with tens and ones.
Science: Pushes and pulls. A push or a pull starts things moving, stops them, and changes their direction; a harder push makes a bigger change.
Read-alouds: “The Enormous Turnip”, “The Little Blue Engine”, “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”, “Paul Bunyan and Babe” and “Tam and the Wind-Up Tractor”.
For the whole family: Play a pushing game with balls of different sizes and talk about which went farthest and why.
