Day 66 of 180 · Science: Pushes and pulls · about 85 minutes

Reading25 min

New: -ing

  1. This week: -ing. -ing means it is happening now: jump becomes jumping.
  2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: jumping, playing, reading and singing.
  3. Your child finds a -ing word in a book or on a box at home.
Math25 min

Reading big numbers

  1. Read 87, 103, 115 and 120 together.
  2. Find each on the hundreds chart, or just after it for numbers past 100.
Science20 min

Pushing and pulling a car

  1. Pull a toy car with a string, then push it with a finger.
  2. Which way did it go each time? A push or a pull starts it moving.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Enormous Turnip

  1. Read “The Enormous Turnip” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. Before reading, look at the title and the first page and ask: what do you think this story is about?
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
