Homeschool reading log

Log what your child reads, mark the books finished, and print a reading list for the year with pages and time. Everything stays on your computer.

Opening your records on this device...

How to use it

  1. Add your child and check the dates of your school year.
  2. Add a line for each sitting, or one line for a whole book: the title, the author, the kind (book, read-aloud, audiobook), and the pages or time if you want them. Tick Finished on the line where the book was completed.
  3. Watch the books finished, pages and time add up. A book counts once however many lines it has. Fix any line in the list below.
  4. Press Print the reading log for a book list with a signature line, or download the lines as a spreadsheet file. Download a backup now and then, because the records live only in this browser.

Ideas for class

  • Log read-alouds as well as independent reading; they count for a lot in the early grades and for the whole family.
  • Use the note for a sentence the child said about the book, which is a ready-made narration record.
  • At year end, print the finished list for the portfolio or the evaluator.
  • Pick one habit: log the book when it is finished, or log each sitting, and keep to it.

Questions

How is a finished book counted?

A book counts once, however many lines you logged for it. Tick Finished on the line where it was completed, and the book joins the finished list with that date. If you log the same title again later, it is still one book.

Do I have to type pages and time?

No. Only the title is needed. Pages and time are optional, and the totals at the top add up whatever you typed. Many families log only the finished books and keep the detail in a note.

Can this look up a book by its ISBN?

No. Looking up a book would mean sending its number to another website, and nothing you type here leaves your computer. You can still keep the ISBN with the line as a note to yourself.

What happens if I clear my browser's data?

The records go with it. They are kept only in this browser, not on our servers, so we cannot get them back. Download a backup file now and then; it holds everything, and you can restore it on any computer.

Is anything I type sent to Peabody?

No. The names, titles and notes stay in this browser on this computer. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and the page works the same offline once it has loaded.

Names, titles and notes are saved in this browser only, and nothing is sent to us. No sign-in, no ads.
