Homeschool spending log
Write down what your homeschool costs: curriculum, classes, supplies, tests, field trips, fees and mileage, for the family or for each child. See the year's totals, save a spreadsheet and print a year sheet. Kept in this browser; no account, no bank links.
Information, not tax advice. What an ESA or a scholarship pays for is set by its program: check its own rules and ask a tax adviser about your family.
What this is for
Some states give homeschool families money in an education savings account (ESA) or a voucher, and most ask for receipts or a list of what was bought. From 2027 the federal scholarship tax credit may fund some homeschool costs, depending on the state. A year's list, by category and by child, is what those programs and a tax preparer ask for. It also answers how much homeschooling costs your family.
States whose record says a program is open to homeschool families (ESA and voucher money, state by state): Alabama, Alaska*, Arizona*, Arkansas, Florida*, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana*, Missouri*, Montana, New Hampshire*, North Carolina, South Carolina*, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia*, Wyoming*.
* Taking the money changes the family's homeschool status there; each state's page says how and what the money buys.

Save, open or clear the log
The CSV opens in any spreadsheet, for your ESA program or a tax preparer. The backup file brings every entry back, here or on another device. Clearing this browser's data deletes the log, so save a file now and then.
How much does homeschooling cost?
It depends on what you buy. Many families spend little beyond books and supplies; others pay for a full curriculum, outside classes, co-op fees and tests. This log shows your own number: add each cost as it comes, and the totals show where the money went.
Which homeschool expenses to keep
- Curriculum and books, classes and tutoring, supplies, standardized tests, field trips, co-op and program fees.
- Mileage, as a dollar amount: the miles you drove times the rate your program or tax preparer uses.
- Keep the paper or emailed receipt and tick "receipt kept". An ESA program can ask to see it.
How the log is kept
Everything stays in this browser. Nothing is sent to us, and there are no bank links. A child is a label you type, such as a first name or a nickname. Save the CSV or the backup file now and then: clearing the browser deletes the log, and the backup file brings it back on any device. Receipt photos are not part of the log yet.
