Review: short vowels in short words · Review: adding and taking away within 5 · Community helpers
Week 18 of 36 in kindergarten, in quarter 2. Five days, about 70 minutes each.
Reading: a review week (short vowels in short words). Every sound so far, writing words by their sounds, and the sight words “come” and “find”. The new story is “Fox and the Hen”, and the reread is “Jen and the Jam”.
Math: Review: adding and taking away within 5. Practice until sums and take-aways within 5 come quickly, with games.
History: Community helpers. The people whose jobs help a town run, from the mail carrier to the nurse to the bus driver.
Read-alouds: “Lion and Mouse”, “Dex on the Bus”, “The Letter for the Moon”, “Marit and the Storm Pony” and “The Little Blue Engine”.
For the whole family: Each child picks a helper they see this week and acts out their job for the others to guess.
