  2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: happier, happiest, funnier and busiest.
  3. Your child finds a y to i word in a book or on a box at home.

Circle and check

  1. Reread a piece from this year and circle every word you are not sure how to spell.

Social studies15 min

The Statue of Liberty

  1. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France and stands in New York Harbor. Find both countries on the globe.
  2. Afterward, your child writes two or three sentences about what they did and why it matters.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The North Wind and the Sun

  1. Read “The North Wind and the Sun” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. Before reading, look at the title and the first page and ask: what do you think this story is about?
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
