Reread: Coo Catches Gumdrop

  1. Reread “Coo Catches Gumdrop” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “show” and “small”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing20 min

My book review

  1. Put it all together as a book review with a title, a summary, your reasons and a star rating.
  2. Your child writes the title and author, what happens in a few sentences, and why someone else should read it.
Math30 min

Estimating a jar

  1. Fill a jar with dry beans or pasta, and each person estimates how many. Then count them in tens.
  2. Whose estimate was the closest one?
Science20 min

Protecting a habitat

  1. Pick a habitat near you, like a stream or a park, and list what could harm it.
  2. Write a plan with two ways people could protect it.
Social studies15 min

State symbols

  1. Find your state's bird, flower or tree, and draw it.
  2. Afterward, your child writes how today's topic shows up in their own town or home.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Mavis and the Greedy Mayor

  1. Read “Mavis and the Greedy Mayor” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. Afterward, ask: has anything like this happened to you? How was it the same, or different?
