Day 125 of 180 · Science: Bones and muscles · Social studies: Clues from the past · about 130 minutes

Reading30 min

Reread: The Four Big Pages

  1. Reread “The Four Big Pages” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “grow” and “hold”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing20 min

Our research page

  1. Put your facts together on one page with a title and a list of your two sources.
  2. With a grown-up, your child reads two short sources on one topic and writes what each one says.
Math30 min

Same total, different arrays

  1. Make every array you can with 12 counters: 1 row of 12, 2 rows of 6, 3 rows of 4.
  2. Draw each one and write its adding sentence.
Science20 min

Strong bones and muscles

  1. Bones grow stronger with jumping and running, and with foods like milk, yogurt, beans and leafy greens.
  2. Make a week's plan with one bone-building activity and one food for each day.
Social studies15 min

A home museum

  1. Set up a small museum of three old things, with a label card for each one.
  2. Afterward, your child writes how today's topic shows up in their own town or home.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Steadfast Tin Soldier

  1. Read “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
