Reread: The Thread That Glowed

  1. Reread “The Thread That Glowed” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “far” and “full”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing20 min

Do the headings fit?

  1. Read your report aloud and check that each paragraph matches its heading.
  2. A short report has a title, two headings and a paragraph under each. Your child chooses the headings first.
Math30 min

A leaf line plot

  1. Collect ten leaves, measure each one in centimeters, and make a line plot.
  2. Write one thing the line plot tells you about the leaves.
Science15 min

A soil report

  1. Write a short report: what soil is made of, who lives in it, and why plants need it.
  2. Your child explains today's science to someone at home, then writes it down in three sentences.
Social studies20 min

Interview about school

  1. Ask a grown-up three questions about their school days and write the answers.
  2. Make a Venn diagram of their school and your learning at home.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Elevator Plan

  1. Read “The Elevator Plan” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. Afterward, ask: has anything like this happened to you? How was it the same, or different?
